On Sunday night, Chase Bricker became the newest poker millionaire at the World Poker Tour World Championships (WPTWC) by winning the largest freeroll in poker history, the ClubWPT Gold $5M Freeroll Invitational. The 36-year-old businessman from Texas claimed every last chip at the table, defeating runner-up Jason Christopher in a swift, one-hand heads-up showdown.
The tournament’s final hand was a cooler: both players picked up Broadway aces (an ace paired with any card from a king to a ten), but Bricker's bigger kicker gave him the edge. All the chips went in preflop and a drama-free board sealed Bricker’s victory and the life-changing $1 million payday.
For Christopher, the runner-up finish came with a bittersweet $250,000 reward. While an impressive result, losing out on a seven-figure payday undoubtedly hurt. But the bad beats didn’t stop there for the Tennessee electrician. Christopher may also go down in history as the victim of one of poker’s most elaborate trolls.

A portion of the freeroll's massive prize pool was reserved for Mystery Bounty prizes. Special bounties were set aside for the final table, including a $200,000 jackpot and a $50,000 prize, alongside three $25,000 envelopes, two $10,000s, and one particularly cruel $0 'Misery Bounty.'
Daniyal Gheba was the first to strike it big, pulling the $200,000 bounty after eliminating Jacob Stufflebean in ninth place. Gheba wasn’t done, either, padding his bankroll with another $25,000 when he sent Eric Zheng to the rail.
Christopher soon joined the bounty action. After knocking out Josh Guindon, it was his turn to step up to the briefcase and claim a mystery bounty envelope of his own.

Hoping for the $50,000 prize, Christopher must have felt he'd nabbed it as he opened his mystery bounty envelope and spotted a comma followed by three zeros. But that joy quickly turned to disbelief when he realized three more zeros were on the slip.
Christopher’s reaction was nothing short of iconic. Channeling vibes reminiscent of the infamous Ben Affleck "smoking meme."
For Christopher, the disappointment of drawing the $0 "Misery Bounty" was a moment that stung and one he’d never get the chance to redeem. Perhaps, in a few days, he’ll see the funny side of it all—or maybe not.

- Being acutely aware of what your opponents are doing can give you important information about their tactics & enable you to make better choices throughout the game. What kinds of sets or sequences they are attempting to create can be seen by observing how they draw from the pile or select from the trash. For example, it is likely that an opponent is attempting to complete a particular meld if they routinely remove cards from the discard pile that are related in rank or suit. This knowledge can direct your own approach; for instance, you may decide to eliminate cards that might enable them to finish their hand. Also, you can learn more about your opponents' hands by observing when they discard. A player may have discovered a better option or that they are no longer pursuing a specific meld if they abruptly discard a card that they had been holding onto for a number of turns. 25-01-07
- Lastly, persistence and patience are two of the most crucial traits for success in rummy. While navigating through different strategies & tactics, players frequently have to wait for specific cards in the game. Players who are impatient may make snap decisions that cost them the game, like throwing away valuable cards too soon or rushing into melds without carefully weighing their options. Players can make more informed decisions that fit their overall strategy by exercising patience and carefully analyzing each move. 25-01-07
- You can outplay your opponents and modify your gameplay by remaining alert and interpreting these subtle clues. This degree of awareness improves your strategic approach & gives the game a psychological warfare component. Jokers are wild cards in many Rummy variations that can be used to form sets or sequences in place of any other card. Jokers are extremely valuable because of their versatility, but maximising their potential requires careful use. One useful tactic is to use jokers to finish challenging combinations that would be hard to accomplish with regular cards. 25-01-07

- While a sequence is a run of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, a set is made up of three or four cards of the same rank but different suits. Different variations of the game, like Gin Rummy, Indian Rummy, or Kalooki, may have slightly different rules and can be played with two or more players. Players are initially dealt a predetermined number of cards, with the remaining cards creating a draw pile. A discard pile is created by turning the top card from the draw pile face up. 25-01-07

- Jokers frequently have a high value as well, so controlling these high-point cards is crucial to reducing possible losses. Monitoring your point total while playing enables you to determine how close your opponents are to winning as well as your own position. A more aggressive approach, such as discarding high-value cards or trying to go out yourself before your opponent does, might be warranted if you observe that they have a low point total because they were able to successfully merge the majority of their hand. Alternatively, it might be wise to switch strategies and concentrate on cutting down deadwood as soon as you can if you have a number of high-point cards that you have little chance of melding anytime soon. 25-01-07
